Yes, the Greeks and Romans were gay

Lately right-winger pundits seem to be denying centuries worth of poetic art, pottery depictions, deified same-sex lovers, the Sacred Band of Thebes and Plato’s Symposium to “reclaim” Ancient Greece and Rome. Most of these seem to quote exclusively from Metatron or Leather Apron, the former openly quote-mining evidence and the latter an actual nazi with anti-semitic videos. I recommend checking what they cite by yourselves, especially knowing the original languages and societal contexts.

Truth be told, both societies were still not ideal. Most Ancient Greek cities had institutionalized pedophilia – Greek sources claim this also about the Persians – and in both societies the bottom was considered a shameful position. Their views on sexuality illustrate that people cannot claim civilizations willy nilly, because this is what you contend with.

I’m part Iberian, part Scandinavian and part Native Mesoamerican. Little is known about these cultures’ take on lgbt issues besides the Norse and Aztecs having low views on being the bottom similar to Romans and yet both also having third genders, so while I take pride in my ancestry I don’t need to claim it all.

The future is what truly matters
